The former Bugle Tap building on Lugley Street in Newport, home to Burrs Restaurant for 29 years.

Thank youfor twenty-nine years

Burrs serves its final dinner on Saturday 26 September 2026. To everyone who has sat at our tables, worked in our kitchen and made this restaurant what it is, thank you.

A few words

Our final weeks

Our last service is Saturday
26 September 2026.

After 29 years on Lugley Street, Matt Burr is retiring and Burrs will close for good. Every booking already made will be honoured. Our final weeks are fully booked, so we are very sorry that we cannot take any new reservations.

A note from Matt

It has always felt like one big family.

When Burrs opened in 1997, I could not have imagined we would still be here twenty-nine years later. Over the years we have been a real family business, with all of my children working here at some point, and the list of people who have helped make Burrs what it is could go on and on.

It has always felt like one big family, and I genuinely couldn't have done it without you all.

To every chef, every member of the waiting team, every supplier who brought us the best of the Island: thank you. And to our guests, the ones who came for a birthday and then came back every year, the ones who booked the same table for twenty years, the ones who trusted us with an anniversary, a proposal, a farewell of their own. You made the room what it was.

After 29 years, there are so many memories to look back on, and I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of so many people's lives along the way. A change in circumstance and family commitments means the time has come to step away.

It's not an easy goodbye, but it's the right time for me and my family. For me, it's a very emotional goodbye.

Thank you, all of you, for twenty-nine remarkable years.

The old Bugle Tap

Burrs spent all twenty-nine years in the former home of The Bugle Tap, a historic Newport pub tucked away on Lugley Street. Low ceilings, exposed brick, a fire in the corner. It was never a grand room, and that was rather the point.

It has fed a great many people. We hope whatever comes next is just as happy here.

Goodbye, and thank you
